The 4 C's of Thinking
In science we’re aiming to establish our classrooms as 'communities of enquiry' where pupils develop the 4C's of thinking:
- Caring thinking
- includes listening, concentrating and appreciating other peoples’ point of view and experiences.
- Collaborative thinking
- includes working together and supporting other pupils in group work.
- Critical thinking
- includes questioning and evaluating our thoughts (and other people’s)
- Creative thinking
- includes imagining, suggesting and using empathy to understand
We mostly use these as reflective tasks to think about how we’ve been thinking (the fancy word for it is METACOGNITION), encouraging pupils to identify their strengths and weaknesses and seeing where we need to develop.
